Hello and welcome to my blog post series about using ChatGPT for academic writing.
As most of you probably already know, ChatGPT is an AI chatbot developed by OpenAI and has been at the center of attention since it was announced in November 2022. It is primarily a text generator but it can also interact with users in a conversational way and answer any questions. Accumulating experience to date shows that it can help users with brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, and editing academic papers. This is the aspect that has been generating a lot of active discussions among scholars as it is closely related to the impact ChatGPT can create on accuracy and integrity of academic writing.
By now, it has been quite clearly established that ChatGPT is not a magic solution. It has its pros and cons, and it requires careful and ethical use. In this blog series, I will explore the ways ChatGPT may be helpful in academic writing, pros and cons of using it and share some of the practices and user experiences, including my own. I will also share some other AI tools that are available today and how they may be able to help the academic author.
ChatGPT is a tool, and it is a personal choice whether to use it and how to use it for writing. I hope this blog series will help you in evaluating the potential benefits and risks and make an informed decision.
